Giving a minute of silence for the hope of any Doctor but Ten being back for the 50th anniversary special.
This is not supposed to be a fanfest. Absolutely not. Which is why Ten/Rose will be the only ones returning.
The team's choices are the team's choices, like it or not. Were the false hopes necessary though, I wonder.

Which reminds me... there /are/ Mickey/Martha photos out there... with a young boy! They were posted in the commments of some of the links I sent them; don't know if you saw them?
http://badwolfebay.tumblr.com/image/49342459502 It's from the twitter of both actors, with DW tags :?

That's Martha? o.O The face she's making doesn't look Martha-ish… Is it just me? o.O
I don't want to know… XD. I'd love it if Martha came back, too, mind. Even with Martha/Mickey. But… yeah, I'm just not thinking about this. Watching the eps as they come and that's it.

It was clearer in a different pic. I only realized once I read the captions. Especially Mickey. He looks so much older.
But yeah, I'm busy enough worrying over OUAT :P
We'll see how it goes.
Although I'm slightly excited about the new ep. The actress playing the old lady... she's on Game of Thrones too and within three episodes she became one of my favorite characters. She was already hilarious on page but the way the lines are delivered just kills me <3

Indeed! Well, maybe it'd show he's matured and be interesting? =P I don't know… I'm not sure what to think. Not buying anything until it's not 100% official… And even then.

Lacey? ;P

This will be my mantra.

Sweet! ;) I'm not too convinced by Clara's hair? XD But that's a detail, lolllll. Happy about Jenny/Vastra time, though I know you care nothing about them ;)

He looks fatter, too, if I can just say that :P
But yes, we'll see.

Yeah, Lacey. Everything about her. It took Gold almost two seasons to get to "I'll be a better man to get my son and Belle back". It took him two episodes to throw it all away and start yelling in annoyance at the son who he looked for for a few centuries and reveling in Lacey's bad influence. I just can not :S

Clara's hair is the least of my DW concerns ;) But this comes from someone who got upset that servant!Belle had a different hair color in Lacey than in Skin Deep (while it's supposed to take place almost simultaneously) and that she had her hair down in Lacey. (And that Rumple got fat, if we're talking continuity anyway :P)

=P ow. Well, his falling back hard and fast into the darkness could make sense. But indeed, if he's turning against the son and relishing Lacey's attitude, though she is the CONTRARY of Belle… That does sound bad.

Clara's hair is the least of my DW concerns ;)
Not the first of mine either! XD Not that shallow… But I don't know, it kinda struck me.

I barely recognized him at first; he looks a bit bloated imo :)

The darkness makes sense, in a way, but the writers - and the audience - have invested so much in his redemption arc... and now it's just gone. It's frustrating. At this point, it's not good story telling anymore, just badly thought through quasi drama for the sake of it (and why does /that/ sounds familiar? :P)

I haven't paid all that much attention to actually notice, to be honest :O Is it different each ep?

Discontinuity and, in a sense, historical inaccuracy. I can't help but think that whores were the only kind of women who wore their hair down in the medieval time period that FTL is loosely based on. Maybe that's the way of the writers to ~imply something about the level of consummation of the Rumbelle relationship? ;)

Merciless, that's me ;) And yes, Depp too (fat, that is, not merciless :P (Althoug, ditching Vanessa for Amber Heart...)) :P Although he looked better in some very recent pics. I didn't think I'd ever say it, but short hair looks much better on him these days :O

*sighs* I'm sorry, dear. It sucks to have a favourite character wrecked in such a cheap way =/

I haven't paid all that much attention to actually notice, to be honest :O Is it different each ep?
LOL, not every ep! Tiny changes. This time it's just the Victorian style, but I was like "why the weird little curls?". I don't know, they probably wanted something that looked special and it was the easiest way to do it since her hair would otherwise be up and mostly-hidden, but I'm not too fond of the result.

I paid attention to Clara's hair yesterday and this time I did notice ;)

Now I'm thinking the prostitute hairdo was from the 19th century, cause I remember a fic being flamed once in which Mrs. Lovett had her hair down in public (and she wasn't a prostitute in that fic :P) Ah well, it could have been the same in medieval times, who even knows :P *thoughtful*

But think about it, how often do you see women with their hair down outside their bedroom? Never, for as far as I can tell! I read that too. And am not happy. Not at all. And shall rant about it. And think I have a right to rant at that. Because many of the classic doctors were willing to be part of the celebration. I even read somewhere Davison and co. were ready to shoot their own 50th anniversary. Let's face it the actors won't be around forever and the 50th would have been ideal for the hommage. I know they planned to record scrumptious Big Finish episodes. Still.
To quote Clara, "I'm not happy". Except I won't have a happy ending.
Sorry, today I'm a five year old.

*sighs* So much. And the symbolism was good too. No fan wars, bringing the audience together. Not picking one companion over the others. I love Rose, but she's not supposed to be coming back. It doesn't make sense in her storyline. And Ten/Rose might be big around the fandom, but this isn't bringing people together.
I'll take Barrowman being left out, I entirely understand their choosing not to use River, though I was hoping for her. But saying the Doctors would all be coming back, and then turning around like this… It's harsh.
Here's to hoping there's a link between Rose and Clara which will make her return and Moffat's "no looking back, going towards the future" stance make more sense…

Sorry, today I'm a five year old.
Ha, wouldn't say so. Honestly, I don't want to be a whiner and spend ages dwelling on "they could have done this or that". But we have a right to criticism, we have passion and expectations and we were told things and they're not coming true. Won't change the world. Won't make the special bad, not necessarily. But for now, it's still a letdown and I didn't feel like keeping quiet about it. Bite me. Expressing the bitterness is cathartic ;)

Rose or the companion who keeps coming back... With each return the impact of her first 'ending' is weakened... To the point that, with my wibbly-wobbly viewing of DW, her series two departure did nothing to me. Absolutely nothing. Which is a shame because she was a very sweet companion, who deserved a grown-up closure. Especially with companions like Donna or Martha who have been so 'mistreated' in their ending and really would need a proper conclusion. Ugh, I was gutted about Barrowman because I love Jack, but understood the decision. Because it must be about the show, its spirit and beauty and way of seeing the world - have you seen this video and this one?. And Jack was a great character but not representative enough of the show. Same about River. But this U-turn... I trust Steven and Matt and David and Billie to offer us a brilliant, fun and entertaining anniversary. No doubt about it, it will be fantastic and memorable. But this is such a missed opportunity. Like reading about the original cast of A Midsummer Night's Dream with Greta Garbo and John Barrymore as Titania and Oberon... It's a bit hard not to bite back tears.

Exactly. Her s4 return is forgivable if you ask me, it was /not/ supposed to happen but the universe was falling apart, blah blah blah, plus she was part of the whole finale foreshadowing. But not one more time. No way! o.O Just like you said, it ruins the very meaning of their separation…

Especially with companions like Donna or Martha who have been so 'mistreated' in their ending and really would need a proper conclusion.
Well, Martha chose to go. And she did see the Doctor again, being independent and still able to have adventures with him… In that way, she's the only one it still makes sense for to return! Donna's departure was tragic, but that's another tragedy that just shouldn't be broken…

have you seen this video and this one?
No, thanks for the recs. They were amazing!

And Jack was a great character but not representative enough of the show.
I agree, but I thought he might be a nice compromise since picking one companion meant reviving the fan wars and picking them all was impossible. Understanding the choice as well though.

Same about River.
Too many people are already sick and tired of River… It saddens me, but it would be unfair to shove her down the whole fandom's throats because Moffat (and us!) adore her.

I trust Steven and Matt and David and Billie to offer us a brilliant, fun and entertaining anniversary.
And Jenna-Louise, though she's had less time to prove herself.

No doubt about it, it will be fantastic and memorable. But this is such a missed opportunity. Like reading about the original cast of A Midsummer Night's Dream with Greta Garbo and John Barrymore as Titania and Oberon... It's a bit hard not to bite back tears.

She deserves the hell of an apology for his behaviour during their time together... But yes, her return would have made much more sense.

Tragic, but to me me in an infuriating-how-could-that-be-okay way... I for one really would have no problem with her end being rewritten.

And Jenna-Louise, though she's had less time to prove herself.
Can't believe I didn't mention her *facepalm*. That's what you get for having a long name... Four syllables is a crowd. Of course, she will be brilliant. As far as I'm concerned she already has proven herself.

Indeed to both…

Definitely, but how to do that and still leave her behind? No parallel universe to keep her trapped here. And Donna Noble was going to travel among the stars forever… They all were mind you.
I'm just really annoyed at the treatment of her in End of Time… So she got a random man (at least they could have kept Lee? Library guy? Love a stammer) and that makes it all okay. Well no, cause she's still "so sad, but she can't remember why". But oh right, money and a wedding make it all okay! I would have loved for her to find something she loved and that thrilled her for HERSELF. A better career, a passion. Travelling still, if only on Earth!

*nods* Then we entirely agree. Her getting her memories erased was awful, but tragic and necessary for her survival, and I'm a sucker for tragedy. But that scene when the Doctor brought her back—Sylvia! Wilfred! Her "yeah, see you" line! *heart shatters* But The End of Time… Of course it was lovely getting even a glimpse of Donna, but honestly the way she turned out was messed up. She deserved better. Back to the temp looking for a man, when she'd proved that she was SO. MUCH. MORE. And with her underlying insecurity, she needed that proof, that achievement. (Besides, wtf with the remembering-and-then-oops-not-and-stunning-people-while-she's-at-it?)
Ah well. Wilfred makes up for it? =/

We agree. Donna deserved so much better - Lee! To erase her character development in such a way -it really wouldn't have been hard to show something in the way she saw and dealt with the world had changed after her time with the Doctor, even if she didn't remember him.
But Wilf, oh Wilf, the only companion on which the fandom agrees. Bernard Cribbins was a great asset, hilarious, quick-witted, and his character really brought another perspective to the show. I understand the need to have companion in their twenties, the running... No, in fact, I don't understand; there is not that much running. Why don't we have older companions? Sorry. Yes, Wilf was perfect.

"the old man prefers the company of the young", like the Dream Lord said—but indeed, Wilf was just wonderfully refreshing. Well, there's also something for the audience there, probably—same way they're doing young and sexy Doctors. But like you said, the audience LOVED Wilf ;)

Nope, I hadn't! I've only seen the very first eps thus far, with Hartnell ;) Thrill for the fangirl, but the episodes themselves didn't all catch me that much. You definitely should try the others. It's very easy to find lists on the Internet of the best episodes for each Doctor. The pace is slower, but the stories more intricate and the atmosphere often very well set. The companions are delightful AND it is a little bit more science-fi.
