Popping by to pimp the amazing fic Moon River by [livejournal.com profile] avarill and [livejournal.com profile] taiamu. I've been enjoying the daylights out of it for the past few days, the River and Doctor characterization really is outstanding—great writing and insight, a very catchy plot that seems ever so promising and just a bit of sexytimes by the end. Their interpretation of how Eleven would be around his first time with River is so similar to mine I was bouncing on my seat the whole time. And it's my babies and it's a smashing fic. Everyone should read if you can spare the time—a rather short prologue and four solid-length chapter thus far, but it's really worth stopping by, believe me!

That is all I wanted to say. XD Been keeping busy and productive—my self-translated novel is almost ready to go to the friend who accepted to proofread it, I've been watching more classic!Who (almost at the end of s3, eeeee!) and writing classic!Who fic! One for Susan, one for Sara and maybe an Ian one to come. That is new and feels pretty lovely. Got to finish typing my Harry Potter WIP update before I get around to that, though. Also I AM UP TO DATE WITH ALL THINGS FANDOM. HOW DID THIS EVER HAPPEN. And I'm getting an e-reader for Christmas, which is something to bounce about! All the free classics, foreign languages and all. God.

*blows kisses to my flist* ♥

I'm so very thrilled you're enjoying our story! Writing River in that particular stage of her timeline was a challenge for me, and I'm glad the story is getting such a warm reception.

Thank you again. :)

You're welcome! It's really brilliant, keep up the great work =)
Indeed, depending on what point you choose to write them it can be more difficult, but that doesn't show in the story at all—her insight is just spot-on!
I'm a bit curious—how do you and [livejournal.com profile] avarill work with writing such a fic as a collab, if you don't mind me asking? I have no problem imagining it as far as the plot and planning are concerned, but the writing feels like it's constant, in the style, the quality of descriptions, the insight—sometimes in collabs you can tell a shift when you move from one author to their partner, here I didn't notice any such thing… I wonder how you pull it off =)

Wow, thanks for asking. I'm glad it appears seamless, that is of course what we were going for!

Let's see, how to describe the process. Most of the time we'd have a plan mapped out for the scene -- which may run the gamut from detailed to vague -- and we pick a POV. About 80% of the time, she does the River parts and I do the Doctor parts. At that point we just let the characters do their thing, and we toss the scene back and forth, usually writing in a chat window. And the characters are so much fun, they just start *doing* things, and they surprise us LOL.

In terms of style, I think that this method works to our advantage, that in places where one person is doing more of the writing, it flows with the POV switches and helps us underscore the characterization. Or at least, I hope that's what it does LOL.

During the revising process, we'll switch it around a bit more, and for example, I'll write some of the River thoughts and she'll write some of the Doctor's actions and dialogue, in places where we need to clarify things or emphasize points. So by the time we've gone through a few drafts, the distinctions aren't quite so clear, but hopefully the result is worth it!

Ah, I see :D That's pretty fascinating, and does sound like a great method. The result is totally worth it :D
Haha, characters getting a mind of their own. That sounds familiar! ;)

Wow!

Thanks so much for the plug! There were many times, while writing this thing, that Taiamu and I wondered why we picked such a difficult time period to write it in, but it's so gratifying to see readers really responding to what we were trying to do. Yay!

Oh yes, I see wat you mean… That period is so open to interpretation with the ship, not to mention the full-blown spoilers activity, with Lake Silencio lurking. Pretty complex to define. After the prologue I'd thought their relationship would be more advanced, since he thought he had to take her to Darillium before he died, but it was lovely to see that in fact, there was a lot left to unfold—and it's kind of typical that it didn't occur to Eleven that more intimacy was likely to happen before the end of their story ;)
(P.S.: I was curious about the collab process and asked Taiamu first, since I responded to her comment before yours, but I tagged you in the question so that both of you could answer if you wanted =) It felt silly to ask both of you in two different threads, lol.)

"Being busy and productive" - something that I am doing the opposite at the moment, which I admit I am enjoying far more than I should.

Enjoy your kindle.
