Just finished series 1 of Classic!Who yesterday and enjoying it like mad. A few thoughts thrown out there:

1- I originally wasn't that caught—the Fire and Daleks episodes bored me a bit, if I'm being 100% honest. The Daleks one especially seemed so long. However, it was very cool to see their very first appearance. Things picked up a little bit with Edge of Destruction and the annnnnngst. Then I stopped to rewatch new!Who instead for ages—and starting again at Keys of Marinus, I ended up having a SMASHING time.

2- Couldn't really tell favourites. Least favourites would be the two first eps, as mentioned higher up. Aztecs gave me all the Barbara feels and I died laughing at the Doctor's engagement, Sensorites was pretty great too. I kept giggling at the Doctor in Reign of Terror, and lol'ing at hearing the Marseillaise and French names with English accents.

3- IAN/BARBARA RULES.

From a message I was sending yesterday to [livejournal.com profile] angel1605:

[livejournal.com profile] angel1605: And did you know that there is a scene in the Sarah Jane Adventures in which Sarah Jane refers to them as being married? It made my shipper heart happy ;)
Me: Ahhhh they're married! :D Well, I'm utterly unsurprised tbh. I mean, just look at the two of them, they bloody look married already. I mean… they don't even need to touch, or flirt, or do anything couple-y. They just stand there being all physically close and talking like a team and touching in the most random and innocent ways and watching each other's back and they give such a feeling of partnership and togetherness. I usually ship what's messed-up and burning and passionate and push-and-pull, but in the just-simply-right category, Ian/Barbara wins HANDS DOWN.

I think this roughly sums it up. =) Also they ARE completely a team, completely equals, and Ian might be the man and good at action, but Barbara always follows, is not belittled or damsel-in-distress-ed, is so very clever and down-to-earth and resourceful. Ah :D

Edit: the very same lovely girl's comment below, about Ian and Barbara becoming professors, made me want to see River pop into the sixties, take advanced history classes and ask Barbara about the Aztec high priest Yetaxa… and gender-irrelevant!reincarnation :D Who wants to write this??? XD

4- I used to dislike Susan a bit, well, not really DISLIKE but not care for her, because she seemed to be there just to scream in the face of danger and be the poor innocent young girl. However, it was v. lovely to see her learn to stand up for herself, a little in Aztecs, but MOSTLY in Sensorites. And to her grandfather no less! I loved that moment. Seems to me like Sensorites did a lot of preparing her departure in s2, what with the speaking her mind, being her own person and not just meekly following her grandfather, and also the home theme and wondering what it would feel like to belong. AND THE GALLIFREY REFERENCE. Orange sky and silver leaves, my heart ♥

5- One is witty and priceless and amazing and kills me regularly. "Now get to work, skinny" and "I made cocoa and got engaged" are amongst my lines of legend but there are MORE! That ridiculously young old man ♥

I think those are all my thoughts. I love the first team TARDIS so much, but I still can't wait to get farther ahead, see Susan's departure and Vicki's arrival on board for instance. I want to see some variety :D Also, found links to ALL of the classic eps yesterday on Dailymotion, on three different channels. Made me so happy :D

*****

Utterly unrelated, but I like to close with a pimp. I haven't looked into classic!fic yet, but I was mentioning my convo with the lovely [livejournal.com profile] angel1605, and yesterday I also happened to be reading her WONDERFUL Once Upon A Time fic. I've never watched the show, but she made me want to, and turned me into a happy Rumbelle shipper through a YouTube vid of all their s1 scenes, a couple of other vids I found on my own, lots of gifs and lots of fangirl feels. Her writing is soooo lovely, so if you're a OUAT fan, you should def. check it out!

Recovering: "Spotting a distressed and no longer intimidating Mr. Gold in the hospital, amnesiac Belle returns the shards of his cup to him in an attempt to console him."

Enjoy, lovelies =)

Let's just say that my day got a whole lot better by reading this, after having been forced to leave work early due to the Monthly Party.

I just checked wikipedia. On Barbara's page it says: "After meeting Jo Grant (Katy Manning) and the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith), Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen) reveals that she has researched the lives of some of the Doctor's earth-bound companions, and discovered that Ian and Barbara have married each other, become professors, live in Cambridge, and are rumoured to have not aged since the 1960s."

Gah I just LOVE One's sass. I vaguely remembers him outsassing some prisoner guard or something who is forcing the prisoners to do demanding labor... doesn't the Doctor hit him on the head with an ax or something after distracting him with golden coins? I laughed so hard XD
Actually, I think I'm going to watch some DW this afternoon ;) I already feel the painkiller kicking in and I might actually enjoy any activity I initiate today :P (Don't tell my boss! :P)

THANK YOU for the pimp! I have no idea whether there are Rumbellers out here but it means a lot that you like my story (and me! :P) so much that you recommend it <3

I see you're listening to the Inception soundtrack btw. Did you see the film, or just found and like the music? I don't remember talking about it before (not that /that/ says much...) but it's one of my all time fav movies :) Right now I'm listening again to the French Eurovision song! It's so good :D

Guh, I'm sorry dear. Glad the post improved your day a little, though ;)

Ghhhhh!!!! That is EXCELLENT. Like I mentioned in an edit to the post, this made me want to see River pop into the sixties, take advanced history classes there and ask Barbara about the Aztec high priest Yetaxa… and gender-irrelevant!reincarnation :D

YES! That's exactly the part I was thinking about, and that's also the guy who calls him skinny. That's exactly it :D I adored it. And the Doctor walking around French country roads all cheerfully.

Actually, I think I'm going to watch some DW this afternoon ;) I already feel the painkiller kicking in and I might actually enjoy any activity I initiate today :P (Don't tell my boss! :P)
Yay! *five days later* How did the day turn out? =P

You're welcome :D Love you.

I see you're listening to the Inception soundtrack btw. Did you see the film, or just found and like the music?
Found the music! Well, that one song—and another I already knew by Hans Zimmer, but I'm not sure it's from Inception—The Citrine Cross. Might be Da Vinci Code instead. I heard it in a fanvid.

I don't remember talking about it before (not that /that/ says much...) but it's one of my all time fav movies :)
My twin goldfish :D I think you mentioned it, briefly though.

Right now I'm listening again to the French Eurovision song! It's so good :D
Yay France! *sounding very convinced*

And here I was thinking you'd forgotten about my post ;)

I'm chuckling at the notion of River meeting up with Barbara XD

"And the Doctor walking around French country roads all cheerfully." Indeed! Didn't he literally do nothing but that for two episodes? XD

Since I wrote 4k of Recovering on Monday and also posted part 8, the day turned out /very/ well *beams*

Far as I know, The Citrine Cross is indeed from the Da Vinci Coe.

"My twin goldfish" LOL. Such accuracy, in my case at least :P

Are you aware of any Rumbelle followers you have? :)

I genuinely like the French Eurovision song of this year, don't be so negative you ;)

Nah, I hadn't—I'd just shoved it onto the "deserve a longer response, do-later" pile and you know what happens to that one ;) That's right… Five days.
IKR? It'd be funny :D Though classic!Who and new!Who just feel kinda separate in my head thus far. The ancient Doctor, the style of companions… IDK.
Yes, I think he did! XD I loved it to bits! Utterly carefree, he seemed.
YAY :D You rock, girl.
In my case it's also mercilessly accurate. Things just fly out of my head. Long term and short term. That's ironical because I also have one hell of a memory for some things, but mostly long-term… (I swear, my mother tells me one thing and five minutes later I know nothing more about it. Well, low attention level does that too. That sounds bitchy for her, now—I mean everyday stuff, not when we're having actual talks =P)
No, unfortunately :( But I figured, you never know! They might have watched the show, and be curious, and check your fic out and love it :D
*obediently positive*

Woo, series 1! Ian/Barbara is ♥ and One delivers one-liners like a boss. And his face when he accidentally got engaged!

Yes and yes and yes and OMFG YES :D
I giggled and thought "River wasn't the first!" ;)

Ahh, I really need to get back into watching classic!Who. I just need to remember which ones I've seen... you're making me want to watch all the One! I think I stopped when Ian&Barbara left because they were perfect.

lol One/Cameca was so the reason I enjoyed Eleven/Marilyn so much. In fact, One and Eleven being at opposite ends of the spectrum only... the youngest is the oldest and vice versa amuses me far too much. XD

Yes, yes, yes! ♥ Like I said, I can't wait to see AWWWWWL of them, but I'm going to mourn when Ian & Barbara go =/
How many Doctors have you tried before? (LOL, that sentence…)
Good point about Eleven/Marilyn!!! And Ten/Elizabeth, lol. You're so right about One vs. Eleven too, teehee :D

All the episodes wooo! (I did see the one where One regenerates, with Ben and Polly. I really liked them!)

LOL ALL OF THEM HAHA! Yes, I've skipped all over the place and watched the episodes from each that sounded most interesting on Wikipedia. And I think I've watched almost all of Three, Four and Five. I was terribly sad when I realised there was no more Four, for example.

Oooh forgot Ten/Elizabeth! Love that one, too. Especially since I can no longer watch The Shakespeare Code without thinking about it. *g*

Ohhhh, regeneration! I was terribly curious about the old episodes handling regeneration :D Not seeing that before a while though, if I keep watching in order and slowwwwwwwly…
You got a small taste of each, didn't you? ;) ♥
Five looked cool ;)
Very fun, indeed =)

They handle it pretty well! :D That's good, savour One! Savooouuuurrr

I did! They're all pretty cool. ♥

Oh, that's right, you saw Five! So prim and yet mouthy.

I will! :D

The look of him was hilarious. XD then again, looks like they all are. I love One's look. And it kinda reminded me of s7!Eleven in ways.

"Cosmic hobo" is my favourite Doctor-description. (I have tried forever to work that into a River/Doctor fic, but River never wants to say it XD)

I know! Eleven moved backwards from nabbing Two's look to One's! (Which led to some Clara-is-his-granddaughter theories, I'm sure.)

Still not getting over all the grandparent themes in Rings of Akhaten =P

Oh, Rings of Akhaten, how you fooled us me...

Possibly :D
Haha… Rings was so FULL OF MEANING. But that part was apparently deceptive :? and we STILL DONT KNOW where the Doctor went off to when Clara was meeting Merry!!!

It was a red herring of anvil-like quality.... That part was weird -- "I shall make a face and disappear" XD. I'll assume it was part of the Companion-test until told otherwise
