Classic!Who s5—The Web of Fear
Jun. 30th, 2014 10:56 pmTrying to get shit done this evening, aka: good amount of work during the day, daily catching up with emails (struggling not to get TOO far behind is more like it…), loading the AO3 updates I have yet to read on my Kindle (thanks for the heads-up,
elisi, that one is getting pretty handy ;)), typing a comment on Amazon for the ebook I've just finished reading—all checked, and now I'm eventually getting around to classic!Who reviews. Just so you guys know, this is the Web of Fear one but I've seen Fury from the Deep in the meantime and am halfway through Wheel in Space. Yeah. XD I AM SO IN LOVE WITH ZOE but that is a subject for another review. For now… yeah, I'll try to get this one started, at least. In the best of all worlds there would be fic-typing, icons and more Who after that, but LOL. No. Not happening ;P Eh.
So. Web of Fear. First, it had the Brigadier, which I quite enjoyed :) He was pretty epic and I loved how coolly he took the existence of the TARDIS, of instance. It was fun seeing the return of a much older Travers from The Abominable Snowmen, as well as the Yeti and the GI, of course—well, what little we saw of it. The character of Anne Travers was really interesting, resourceful, intelligent, badass. I liked her wariness towards the Doctor at first, and the paranoia all around, knowing one of the characters was being manipulated by the GI, the suspicion back and forth between the Doctor and the Brigadier :D Side characters like Evans and the journalist were also quite fun. The atmosphere at the beginning was pretty nice, quite chilling. Pretty enjoyable overall :)
Jamie is relevant as always—because Jamie McCrimmon Had It Right Since 1968 with: "Anyway, as you know the TARDIS has a mind of its own. You know you can't control it." THAT'S MY BOY. Because Jamie being utterly oblivious to Victoria in a pretty dress and all about his conversation with the Doctor is such a hilarious shippy-ish moment. :D Jamie feeling terribly guilty about unwillingly endangering the Doctor also made me want to squish him so much. I loved the team TARDIS as always besides, team work on working the controls made me squee :D But Victoria was already starting to be a little less comfortable and a little more scared about the adventures, foreshadowing for her departure. The Doctor feeling so wretched, at the end, about failing to defeat the GI—and that because the others hadn't listened to him and gone along with his plan, fearing for his safety and pulling him out instead, but he still seemed to blame himself first—was really moving ♥

Jamie: "Anyway, as you know the TARDIS has a mind of its own. You know you can't control it." I SAID IT BEFORE. HE GOT IT RIGHT. 1968, I GIVE YOU CANON IN PROGRESS AND JAMIE MCCRIMMON BEING FULL OF WIN.
Two: "Trains. Underground trains. A little after your time, I think, Victoria."
Anne Travers: "What's a girl like you doing in a job like this?" / "Well, when I was a little girl I thought I'd like to be a scientist, so I became a scientist."
Anne Travers: "Don't say it, Mr. Chorley. I have a very quick temper and very long claws."
Evans: "I may be stupid, but I'm not daft."
