Well, I thought she was naked at first o.O But the way she moves, and her expressions… it's just both really weird and mind-blowing. And the girl is 12. Dude. o.O
Yeah, that whole thing was just...surreal. I was disturbed (which is saying something for me). More of a weirded out than disturbed I suppose. For me it was the fact she had no expression. Just...O_o
Don't get me wrong, I love dancing *even though I can't for the life of me dance*... but I have to confess that I am rather confused as to the message the dancer is trying to convey in the song.
There was such lack of expression on her face. And her dancing was O.o
I honestly thought she was naked at first. Is she supposed to represent a victim of abuse? A lot of the dance moves seemed to follow that direction...
However, I don't want to check it out again. I was just too weirded out if you know what I mean.
Lol! I don't think I have ever been at a loss for words either. Well maybe once or twice in my real life- but how else would you have dealt with a compulsive liar who claims that her parents were in the mafia (yet changed her story every time she met somebody new)? :P In the end, she said that her mother brought her to Russia and she was adopted out to the parents she lived with in Paris.
I love dancing but can't dance, too! ;) I read in the comments that the dancing suggested insanity. She mimics everyday-like gestures sometimes, and all throughout she just jerks everywhere with a completely vacant face, indeed—I felt like I was watching a puppet, a doll being pulled around… she is very doll-like, the way her hair is done, the wide eyes and face structure and fixed expression… It's like she portrays wildness, insanity, being pulled and tossed around by a force that's beyond her, and at other times being forced to conform to "normal" behaviour (and that happens when she leaves the first room…), then it goes wild all over again… the play on curtains seems to mimic suicide… There are many things I don't understand and the whole thing is supposed to be unsettling/bewildering, but the vacant, broken, out of control feel was pretty powerful to me.
I thought she was naked at first too :O But it could be meant not as something sexual, but actually something that makes it all even more impersonal. Clothing can make you look girly, boyish, neutral, fashionable, eccentric, showy or very discrete, but it defines you. Here she wears minimum clothing that nearly blends with her skin, she looks like she's wearing nothing at all indeed, but it seems only bewildering and troubling, not provocative. She's so young, her body isn't formed as a woman's, therefore she really seems like a doll with no hint of sexuality. The abuse is a quite interesting thought. That hadn't occurred to me, but you might be right. I haven't really tried to read a story into the whole thing, I just focused on the feelings.
But yeah, I understand the reaction. It is… certainly odd and troubling. Personally I was fascinated, but I understand being creeped out by it too!
Um, yes. Speechlessness seems like the only reaction in that case… =P
