Finished watching Planet of Giants today and OMFG IT'S SOOOOOOOO GOOD. If s2 carries on that way, it's certainly most promising :D

1- The whole plot of the episode had me thrilled and on the edge of my seat and full of giggles. The cat! The sink! Insects! The matchbox! The phone! ♥♥♥!

2- Sick!Barbara. My poor love. *loves her* And Ian's face…

3- On the same note, Ian/Barbara always and forever. Just keep touching in all the little innocent ways, you two. I also found out there are many more episodes with them than I once thought—yay!

4- Susan being clever and making deductions at the SAME TIME at her grandfather, and standing up for herself when Ian was like "no way." Good for you, girl!

5- Those baddies. I liked those baddies. I don't know why, I just did. Baddies who weren't aliens/historical, just people who would have done about anything if it served their interest or what they believed in. Just human.

6- The Doctor apologized to Barbara for being rude, at the beginning! ♥♥♥

7- I just love the way they can split up in ANY team—Ian/Barbara and the Doctor and his granddaughter vs. Doctor + Barbara and Ian + Susan vs. the men on one side and the girls on the other—and it ALWAYS WORKS.

Watching next: Susan's last episode, Daleks again (hoping to enjoy it more than their s1 ep…) and then it'll be Vicki joining the crew! :D

They're even quite right :D I mean, at first, the Doctor seems a bit unsettlingly hostile towards humanity—unsettlingly for us, knowing him the way we do! And who changes him? It's not Susan, who was with him to begin with and does more following than changing—she changes and evolves herself, and thus makes her relationship with her grandfather shift, but she doesn't change him. Ian is important but theirs is a… man to man relationship? Ian and Barbara are the ones who open him to human companions, probably (at first they came for Susan, but then they were all a team—and I need to see how things will go to get Vicki on board to be able to go on with that reasoning) and Barbara has the more insightful, emotional part, she can soften him and deal with him (though Ian knows how to deal with him too—LOL, the beginning of Reign of Terror… :D). So yeah, Barbara probably strongly contributed to what he had with all the companions that followed :D Opening him up, so to speak.

I can never put my finger on what Ian + One's relationship is supposed to be, heh... what with One keeps "forgetting" Ian's name (or maybe he really does forget it?) and it's sort of like Rory + 11 but not really. XD Barbara could get through to him in that "Doctor, shush" way. :D

(I've seen Reign of Terror but can't remember what happens in the beginnning :( )

To me, they mostly seem to work like partners in action. Although One can be pretty dismissive of Ian sometimes, it seems that he values his thinking abilities all the same and can listen to him… (When he feels like it =P) Like, One is the super brain but Ian is clever in a more down-to-earth way, less theoretical and more resourceful. I think they're a bit more balanced than Rory + Eleven. But that's just my feeling.

Barbara could get through to him in that "Doctor, shush" way. :D
:D Indeed! And I grin when he my dear's her.

DOCTOR: I'm rather tired of your insinuations that I am not master of this craft. Oh, I admit, it did develop a fault, a minor fault on one occasion, perhaps twice, but nothing I couldn't control.
IAN: I know that. Of course you're in control. You're always in control. And I'm sure you could revisit us at any time.
DOCTOR: Very simple. Quite simple.
IAN: Exactly, quite simple. But you have your important researches to complete. You may not find the time. There's a chance that we won't meet again. Don't you think it would be better if we parted under more friendly circumstances, say over a drink?
DOCTOR: Yes. Yes, well perhaps, since you put it that way, an hour or two won't come amiss. […]
(Susan and the Doctor leave)
BARBARA: Well done, Ian.

Teehee.
