*************************************************************************************************

The grape bursts inside her mouth, tangy sweet and acidic.

Barbara closes her eyes and slumps over the couch. For a handful of seconds her world is made of nothing but weary limbs resting there against soft pillows and the flavour flooding her taste buds, simple and heavenly. Then she hears laughter, and feels a prod at her shoulder.

She deigns to lift one eyelid. Ian is standing over her, towering from his height. From her reclined position, she can see mussed hair, the gleam of his eye, the arching curve of his grin. He is smirking at her.

"What is it?" she asks. "Have we not earned a small rest, don’t you think?"

"Oh, we most certainly have," he replies. "I was just thinking you looked remarkably like a cat, basking in the sunlight. I guess I found that entertaining."

"Cats do not eat grapes, mister Chesterton," she quips back. Her wit has known better days for sure, but she is much too tired to care. He chuckles anyhow, and Barbara reaches out a hand and drags him down beside her.

He does not resist; he pushes his own couch closer, in fact, smiling wider still, flushed and happy. She likes that messy look on him; it fits the person he is, smart and down-to-earth teacher, yet with a certain partiality for adventure. They are in this together, for the joys and the struggles; today has more than demonstrated that. The idea is obvious in her mind, radiant on her face apparently, for Ian raises an eyebrow.

"Now what are you beaming about?" he asks, tone dropping into a pitch fit for secrets. She only chuckles again. Doesn’t he know?

"Why, nothing." She plucks another grape and feeds it to him. Obedient, he takes the fruit and pauses in speech to enjoy her gift; she watches it slip between his lips from her fingers, imagines the popping of the peel and the cool spray of juice across his tongue. They both smile wider, like a pair of goofy fools.

"All right, then," he says, content. Casually, he catches her hand before it retreats. "That was what Rome was supposed to be all about, you know," he carries on. "Leisure, pleasure."

"I know."

"Well, it was not so bad. In the end, that is."

"Ian."

"Yes?"

"Be quiet."

She likes it when he obeys her like that. She likes reaching out easily with her free hand and drawing him closer to her against the pillow, motion slow and sure as he stretches towards and hovers over her. She likes the smile and the eyes and the flush of his cheeks and the taste of grapes, tangy sweet upon his tongue.

Dimly, she hopes the Doctor and Vicki will stay gone for just a little longer as she savours her bubble of bliss.

Oh, how pretty and... sultry and atmospheric. Your Ian/Barbara is witty and understated, and yay for Barbara POV!

(Also I know I haven't answered your meme questions yet -- I might have to take a raincheck on those.)

I loved this, such a sweet and a little saucy moment between these too. My mind kept screaming for a "more" moment, but I love how short and sweet this is, capturing the prompt perfectly. Well done!

Well, thank you very much, you make me think of summer and stone warmed by the sun, bare feet and apple juice, crickets. You have no right. I hate summer.
More seriously; this was so delicious, really gorgeous and precious and BABIES! The sensuality factor is tremendous and overwhelming. This is such a neat, crafted slice of pleasure.
My favourite part must be Barbara observing his mussed hair and later stating she likes it when he obeys her like that. In fact, they both ridiculously look like cats here, languid, lying, smirking. It's just perfect.

♥♥♥♥♥ I love causing those impressions in you, and I love it even more because you hate summer, lol! Keep summer as an abstract idea. You have all the gorgeous images to go along with it already ;)

So yes, thank you sooooo much ♥ I'm so happy you enjoyed, as always, happy you liked the sensuality and the obedience and the hair :) Cats, absolutely. *grinning* I so enjoyed writing this.

Love you! ♥

Your attention to detail reaches levels of awe-inspiring! I hadn't even realized they had such particular speech patterns until I read this and notice how very in character they both are. Makes me want to get back to my rewatch of the classics, LOL

Oh, thank you SO MUCH :D I'm absolutely delighted you enjoyed the voices! ♥

Classics rewatching is the best thing! Well, the longest thing too, probably ;) I've only seen the One era and part of Two for now. Making progress though, slowly but surely ;)

I grew up watching old school on Sci Fi Friday night on IPTV (LOL random PBS love), so I'm pretty sure I've watched all of them at least once in my lifetime. Though, that was so long ago I mostly just remember the broad strokes, the setups, the companions, etc.. Ace & Romana are <3, but you won't get to them for a while yet.

I started a rewatch from the beginning a few months ago, but got bogged down with other stuff and haven't gotten back to it yet. Some newer fans seem to not be able to enjoy the older eps, so I'm glad you've discovered how awesome they can be! Some of it is quite corny, I'll admit, but the concepts hold up rather well. Plus, I've got the nostalgia going for me :)

God, yes. I'm looking forward to a lot of things (Seven, Ace, the Master, Romana, more Gallifrey stuff) but what with watching in order, I know it'll take a long while! For now I've got Two, Jamie and Victoria though, so that's good enough!

I had a bit of trouble getting caught into it at the first eps, but I'm so glad I ended up giving it another try! Of course there are always things to be criticized (or rather laughed at…), but it's still wonderful, and it's so great seeing the history of the show, the evolution of the character and concepts—fifty years! The first regeneration, the slow building of the Doctor's origins, it's all pretty fascinating. Plus all the hilarious stuff and the brilliance of Hartnell and Troughton. ♥ Hartnell was my only classic Doctor when I saw Adventure in Space and Time, and I just wanted to tear up.

A lot of TV shows take some time to get into, even ones that were made more recently...and sometimes they get cancelled right as they're getting good! At least with this one, you know the awesomeness that awaits :D

Just in the few I've rewatched so far, I've been surprised by how many things I don't remember that blatantly contradict things they say later, LOL My mouth srsly dropped open when he said something about the TARDIS being just a machine that couldn't think! (You might even say it discombobulated me XD)

Very fascinating indeed, the slow evolving it went through, different theories and new scientific discoveries layering on one after another. I loved Adventure in Space and Time so much, and it even touched on how things got changed as problems arose. I kept it together till the end, but something about seeing Matt Smith in his bow tie on Hartnell's TARDIS set made me want to bawl <3

My main problem with getting through longer series is that I seem to be unable to multi-task, at all, so time constraints become a limiting factor to get around to any show. Probably doesn't help that I spend so much of my free time on the kinkmeme, LOL

From: [identity profile] flowsoffire.livejournal.com
True, true! And shows getting cancelled suck. =P

I know right! Goodness, the TARDIS thing =O How far was that?

(You might even say it discombobulated me XD)
ROFL! ^_^

All the emotion ♥♥♥

Oh, I really get the time issue. Somehow I spend most of my time online (working from home and all that) and still suck as much as time management, lol. Or rather I always want to do too many things ;) When I tell some people it took me five-six months to watch New!Who they're like "what?", but it's been almost a year since I started watching the classics more seriously again and I've only just finished s4, lol. My to-watch list is pure idiocy because I KNOW I'll be lucky if I ever get around to 10% of it…

Eleventykink? Haha, that's rather addictive, I get you ;)

*whispers* I really hate summer though. Sun! Insects! Tourists! Too many people on cycling paths! *is obviously not whispering anymore* Not so abstract. But yes, gorgeous imagery is provided through this season.

Cat!Barbara and Ian could be an AU. With Baudelaire-like insight. Grrrr.

*loves you from her winter palace*

Haha, yes, all good points! I mentioned hatred of bees and wasps, and I'm not in the city so I don't have to suffer from tourists and people on cycling paths, lol. I don't have cycling paths. And the sun I like ♥ And summer fruit, mmm. ♥

Oh Baudelaire. Goodness. ♥♥♥

Be the winter queen! ;) (And winter is coming…)

Awww, I am not fond of them either, but well, they rarely attack you the way tourists do... I'm kidding. We are not swarmed by tourists.
AND THE FIRST APRICOTS ARRIVED, I AM MERRY AGAIN.
