Classic!Who s4—The Moonbase
Mar. 23rd, 2014 09:36 pmCybermen, yay! Team!TARDIS, yay! Half of it not a recon, yay!
That was a pretty nice episode! I like that team!TARDIS more and more, it's really better when there are four of them I think. Idk, the team spirit is stronger. I love the Doctor trying to land them on Mars and ending up on the moon, and Ben snarking "Oh, well, you weren't too far out, were you? Only about two hundred million miles." Jamie's 18th-century Scottish comments are very fun, and I really found sweet the way the Doctor related to his fear about being taken by the "McCrimmon Piper" (aka death) and treated it as something important—"You don't believe it, do you?" / "No, but he does. It's important to him." Feels. I also liked Polly more, and it's fun how the episode is dancing between sexism (Polly being Coffee Girl, Ben going "Not you, Polly. This is men's work."—fuck you) and clear Polly empowerment (Polly saving the day with sheer cleverness, figuring out how to use acids against the Cybermen—nice change from the fairly dumb or overly naive comments she makes sometimes—plus Polly going for the "men's work" anyway). Go you, 1967, you can do this thing! (Oh, and Duchess, I like that nickname.)
Also there were random men with French accents and speaking legit French. :D Real French too from the sound of it! Let me have Two being told off in French ALL THE TIME. And muttering "Enchanté, monsieur." He's precious. Two is always precious. And amazing. Yes.
Funny things besides:
Two being asked if he is an actual doctor: "I think I took a degree once in Glasgow. 1888 I think." That shit is reassuring.
Ben: "Blimey, I'll be after a job as a copper when I get back to 1966."
Flying Cybermen. Giggles.
Jamie and his kilt.
Now off for MOAR CLASSIC!WHO. I'm having an evening made of mostly classic!Who and icon-making and it's my favourite things, yesss. Relaxing ftw, I needed that ♥
