Classic!Who s4—The Smugglers

Eeee, feels nice to put "s4" in a title ;)

Well… that's the thing that feels nicest. XD The Smugglers wasn't a favourite of mine—I think the poor recon quality didn't help. Also the plot confused me a lot, with all the pirats everywhere backstabbing each other (guess I would have understood better if I'd put in more of an effort, lol), and my fondness for Ben and Polly kind of faded away. XD Polly seemed kind of useless, just squealing at the rats like a baby and being told to run off to the TARDIS and… put the kettle on, for god's sake. Also—"Yeah, well, I'm not playing what's his name? Watson to you." Wow, girl, way to sound cultured. XD Ben wasn't much better—"This friend of yours, the one you call the Doctor, is he a learned man?" / "Oh, not half." LOL, yeah, right.

So yeah, it was nice because it was Who, but nothing much besides. Except for One sweet-talking the pirat, and reading cards, and stating at the end that their next adventure might very well be way worse instead of cozier like Polly hoped—hell of a foreshadowing right there. Oneeeeee. Anyway, there's Tenth Planet next—not a recon! (Well, except for the very last part. Aka regeneration. Fml.) One's last serial! And Cybermen! *excited*

Okay, I'll just ignore this ep in favour of Tenth Planet! You're at Tenth Planet! Haha, I'm just oddly excited because I've seen that one. XD

Creepy Cybermen are creepy, though.

[identity profile] flowsoffire.livejournal.com 2013-12-22 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, we'll do that! I'M AT TENTH PLANET! I just watched the first part actually and really enjoyed it :D It was blissful to see something that wasn't a recon ;)

Yesssss! Eerie and a bit weird-looking ;)

[identity profile] honeynoir.livejournal.com 2013-12-22 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
YAY TENTH PLANET NOT A RECON I still remember it's set in 1986 for some reason.

I love that the costumes are obviously like lamps and paint. But the voices the voices

[identity profile] flowsoffire.livejournal.com 2013-12-22 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it is! :D Haha, far future that. And there are SO MANY recons in that season too, it just depresses me. No kidding, at least half of each ep is missing. Oh well, got to think that it gets a bit better in s5, hugely better in s6 and then nothing is missing anymore. I don't remember which season the found episodes were in, either. (I never minded recons before! Idk, this one had rather bad quality, the sound wasn't too good either and did my English no favours. Half the time I was reading along in a transcript and not looking at the images anyway. Taking recons like audios ftw.)

Haha, yes, good description! :D And I haven't heard the voices yet! But I will tomorrow, or that's the plan anyway :D

[identity profile] honeynoir.livejournal.com 2013-12-22 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
And somehow it's always the finale that's missing. So happy we got some more Two back, because there was far too little Two!

Idk, this one had rather bad quality, the sound wasn't too good either and did my English no favours. Half the time I was reading along in a transcript and not looking at the images anyway. Taking recons like audios ftw.)
Yeah, then it's not very fun. Taking them as audios might work the best!

I can't remember if the recon of the final part of Tenth Planet I saw was good or not, but it has One regenerating it doesn't matter, lol.

Oh, now I remember how the first part of Tenth Planet ended. D'oh! Yes, you'll be hearing a lot of the voices, probably. :D

[identity profile] flowsoffire.livejournal.com 2013-12-22 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's typical like that. XD I looked it up and the missing serials found back were in s5. Except the Wiki page I looked up was already taking them into account, so no good surprise to be expected ;)

Yep, the audio way worked well. I didn't mind too much either.

I'd have killed for the regeneration to be a proper scene, but never mind that ;)

Yeah, all the poor guys got killed ;) And the Cybermen looked eerie. All the coolness! Are they already saying DELETE?

[identity profile] honeynoir.livejournal.com 2013-12-22 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww. :(

At least there is some actual footage of One's regen, even if it's like a second. /silver lining

Nah, they don't start saying delete till New Who. Also there are like three different types of Cybermen.

[identity profile] flowsoffire.livejournal.com 2013-12-22 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! *clings greedily to the silver lining*
Awww. Well, it'll be very interesting seeing the evolution :D (New!Who totally made it sound like the Crouch Sr. guy had invented the Cybermen…)

[identity profile] honeynoir.livejournal.com 2013-12-22 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
(Crouch Sr. did, though, I think. That kind of Cybermen. They just look a lot like the other kinds, heh.)

Related, I'm still miffed because since School Reunion I thought the Doctor invented K9, and then I watched some Four and it turned out he had not.

[identity profile] flowsoffire.livejournal.com 2013-12-22 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
WHO CANON IS CONFUSING! XD
Ahhh, where does K9 come from then??? Oh wait. Spoilers. Don't tell me ;) It's kind of cool if he hasn't, though it would be cool if he had! Haha. *easily pleased*

[identity profile] honeynoir.livejournal.com 2013-12-22 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
YES IT REALLY IS

Oops I totally baited you there. I won't tell you, though it's not very exciting anyway. Although technically, since there are diffent K-9s he's made most of them. Like, he has made the one in School Reunion, except not the very first.

[identity profile] flowsoffire.livejournal.com 2013-12-22 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Like that thing I noticed about the War Machines calling the Doctor Doctor Who. *headdesk*

Haha, no problem ;) And ohhh, yeah, different K-9s! Hadn't realized that…

[identity profile] honeynoir.livejournal.com 2013-12-22 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's special...

Well, they have the same brain, just different casing. /unintended DotD quote

[identity profile] flowsoffire.livejournal.com 2013-12-22 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
And I think the credits do the same thing. Eeee! Take this away.

Yay quoting! :D

[identity profile] honeynoir.livejournal.com 2013-12-22 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Ohhh yes! They do with Nine, as well. Apparently Tennant made them stop when it was his turn.

[identity profile] flowsoffire.livejournal.com 2013-12-23 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Really??? OMFG, noooo. ALL THE LOVE FOR TENNANT.

[identity profile] honeynoir.livejournal.com 2013-12-29 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, TY Tennant for finally making the credits fit! <3 He's such a fanboy, it's amazing. I've read that the script to "School Reunion" kept having Ten call Sarah Jane, er, Sarah Jane, but Tennant basically said "nope, the Doctor always called her just Sarah when I grew up" and so they changed it.

[identity profile] flowsoffire.livejournal.com 2013-12-30 12:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes :D It's just brilliant. Hahaha, the Sarah thing is perfect too!!!!!

[identity profile] taiamu.livejournal.com 2013-12-22 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, are you reviewing every single episode? Awesome! I'm always interested to know what other people think about Classic Who. Can't wait to read this. :)

[identity profile] flowsoffire.livejournal.com 2013-12-23 11:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yep! More or less quickly, but I always put in a little word :) It's nice to share the loveliness and my (slow) progress!

How much have you seen of the classics? :)

[identity profile] taiamu.livejournal.com 2013-12-24 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
I've bounced around the Classic Series. Here's a link to my huge project: http://taiamu.livejournal.com/102188.html#comments

I'm in the middle of cleaning it up, now. Some have links to reviews.

And as I've been reading your reviews of the One era, have a link to some Ian/Barbara cuteness: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36LA97klg4A

:)

[identity profile] flowsoffire.livejournal.com 2013-12-24 10:57 am (UTC)(link)
GOODNESS!!!! And I thought I was crazy because I started right at the beginning and am now watching every episode including recons! This is EPIC. Who is your favourite Doctor, if you have one?

Cleaning it up aka updating with what you've seen in the meantime and all? That must be quite some work ;)

Eeee, Ian/Barbara! They're my favourites, along with Vicki ♥ Thank you! It's the first One era only vid actually :)

I saw you were watching the Dalek invasion of Earth—how are you enjoying it? :) That's a pretty nice ep as far as I recall, though classic!Dalek voices get on my nerves even more than in New!Who, lol. I almost got it confused with Daleks Master Plan, now this one was LONG… phew.

[identity profile] taiamu.livejournal.com 2013-12-24 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
My favorite Doctor? Ooh. That's difficult. My standard answer is Four. But really, it depends on my mood at the time. I love the Doctor, in all his facets. :) So, short version: I can't choose. :). It's easier to choose between companions.

Re: Dalek Invasion of Earth. I saw that one a while ago, actually. I liked it. It was long, as Classic Who tends to be. You can't beat Barbara running over a Dalek with a truck. Hee.

Re: The epic list of Who-ness. Yeah...I may have bit off more than I can chew with that. LOL.

[identity profile] flowsoffire.livejournal.com 2013-12-24 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahaha, I understand… I think I'll be the very same. Only seen One thus far, but all Doctors look fantastic—and for New!Who, it would be Matt because of Eleven/River, but besides I love all three of them equally ;)

Barbara ftw! :D Eeeee, I remember the truck thing…

XD I can empathize with that… ;)

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*HUGS*

[identity profile] flowsoffire.livejournal.com 2013-12-23 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I KNOW! And I started the Tenth Planet and I'm enjoying it soooo much ♥
