Time for s3 it is—and my first recons! I decided that well, I'd give it a try given that there are so many missing eps, and ended up watching all of Galaxy 4 but the last part, and The Myth Makers. (Didn't bother with Mission to the Unknown as the Doctor and companions weren't even there.) It proved to be quite fun—the episodes were nice, if nothing that outstanding, and most of all seeing Steven and Vicki longer left me quite all right with the idea of her departure. Their dynamic together was nice, but I wasn't as excited about it as I was in The Time Meddler.
As for the plots, they were nice enough—I was interested in the aliens women from Galaxy 4… A bit like Amazons in the disregard for men, a bit like bees in the head woman that took all the decisions and the others being but pawns. As for The Myth Makers, I didn't like the Greeks too much, especially Odysseus who just seemed incredibly devoid of subtlety, but Agamemnon's and Menelaus' bickering made me laugh. The Trojans were nicer—Vicki flirting with Troilus was nice. As for her departure, it was a bit fast, after her having been so very attached to the Doctor—another girl who leaves because she's found a man! *sighs* I just loved delirious!Steven calling her name in the TARDIS though. That was so moving. Katarina staying with them seemed a bit random, she was basically there because the Doctor needed someone to support Steven and Steven needed someone to mistake for Vicki—but I laughed when she basically stated she thought she was dead and going to the beyond, and I'm intrigued by the idea of a Trojan companion, though I know she won't last very long. Should be interesting.
Something else I loved: the Doctor being mistaken for a god. It was rather nicely handled, in the beginning and closure—at first he found it funny and kind of enjoyed it ("What is it you take me for?"/"The father of the Gods and ruler of the world." "What? Do you really."), but in the end, he just gravely stated "I am not a God. I am not a God." And in-between there had been all that chaos and violence that so obviously distressed him… ♥
