Rose or the companion who keeps coming back... With each return the impact of her first 'ending' is weakened... To the point that, with my wibbly-wobbly viewing of DW, her series two departure did nothing to me. Absolutely nothing. Which is a shame because she was a very sweet companion, who deserved a grown-up closure. Exactly. Her s4 return is forgivable if you ask me, it was /not/ supposed to happen but the universe was falling apart, blah blah blah, plus she was part of the whole finale foreshadowing. But not one more time. No way! o.O Just like you said, it ruins the very meaning of their separation…
Especially with companions like Donna or Martha who have been so 'mistreated' in their ending and really would need a proper conclusion. Well, Martha chose to go. And she did see the Doctor again, being independent and still able to have adventures with him… In that way, she's the only one it still makes sense for to return! Donna's departure was tragic, but that's another tragedy that just shouldn't be broken…
have you seen this video and this one? No, thanks for the recs. They were amazing!
And Jack was a great character but not representative enough of the show. I agree, but I thought he might be a nice compromise since picking one companion meant reviving the fan wars and picking them all was impossible. Understanding the choice as well though.
Same about River. Too many people are already sick and tired of River… It saddens me, but it would be unfair to shove her down the whole fandom's throats because Moffat (and us!) adore her.
I trust Steven and Matt and David and Billie to offer us a brilliant, fun and entertaining anniversary. And Jenna-Louise, though she's had less time to prove herself.
No doubt about it, it will be fantastic and memorable. But this is such a missed opportunity. Like reading about the original cast of A Midsummer Night's Dream with Greta Garbo and John Barrymore as Titania and Oberon... It's a bit hard not to bite back tears. *nods and hugs*
