You know, I've never quite grasped Clara. I love reading about her (when she is done so perfectly like this), because she is as ethereal, solid, comforting and disconcerting as she is on the show. She is so, so steady and yet so matter-of-factly imaginative. Her wild impulses part of her steady nature and this is just...marvelous!!!
I did catch the overflow reference, btw. Just finished the book and my gods - you do grasp emotion and feelings and the human condition so, so well!! So why not Mels and Clara? Actually...why anyone else? They ARE the epitome of human though they are both anything but. So impossible and timeless and fragile. It is no wonder they found each other...and they are truly perfect together, even if only briefly. Honestly - if they had stayed together too long, the universe would have imploded...
This definitely gives reason to River's smile when 'meeting' Clara...perfect, perfect, perfect.
