Popping by to pimp the amazing fic Moon River by [livejournal.com profile] avarill and [livejournal.com profile] taiamu. I've been enjoying the daylights out of it for the past few days, the River and Doctor characterization really is outstanding—great writing and insight, a very catchy plot that seems ever so promising and just a bit of sexytimes by the end. Their interpretation of how Eleven would be around his first time with River is so similar to mine I was bouncing on my seat the whole time. And it's my babies and it's a smashing fic. Everyone should read if you can spare the time—a rather short prologue and four solid-length chapter thus far, but it's really worth stopping by, believe me!

THIS IS IT I FINISHED MY TRANSLATION! ^_^ …but that was not the point of this post at all. Ahem…

Sooo, I watched The Ark now! And The Celestial Toymaker is next, eeeee! But no need to think about that—The Ark was really pretty good, one of my s3 favourites, definitely—if not the one. (Its being entirely available might have helped too!) Read more... )

Watched The Massacre this week! It was enjoyable, though we didn't see One enough for my tastes. I was mostly delighted by the atmosphere at first, reminded me a little of Reign of Terror—my, they did love France! Steven didn't exceedingly interest me, but Anne was quite sweet. ONE HAD A TOP HAT AT SOME POINT! And he was crafty and handed Steven some money, although it wasn't very neat for change, lol.

Well, I finished Daleks' Master Plan eventually. Very grateful for that—12 parts, that's honestly too long, lol. I thought I would never see the end of it—especially since I watch less and less often when I'm doing proofreading work, which is kind of easier to carry on with during long periods. Anyway, thoughts as follows:

I've got a message

*points and screeches and points and screeches and points* THIS IS IT. MESSAGE BY SYNTAX. I'd requested that in Eleventyfest and the person I got assigned to chose that prompt and I KNEW IT WOULD BE PERFECT BUT THIS IS BEYOND PERFECTION THIS IS *GODLY* AND EVERY DETAIL IS *GODLY* AND I CAN'T. All the River feels and all the Clara feels and Eleven and darkness and hope and memories and it has Nine and Ten and Donna at the end and HGSXGSKSCDZ how did this happen how did this vid become something *real*. I had such a vivid picture of what it could be like and it is entirely that and entirely different and unique and I am going to freaking worship that anon.

I. am. dead.

Time for s3 it is—and my first recons! I decided that well, I'd give it a try given that there are so many missing eps, and ended up watching all of Galaxy 4 but the last part, and The Myth Makers. (Didn't bother with Mission to the Unknown as the Doctor and companions weren't even there.) It proved to be quite fun—the episodes were nice, if nothing that outstanding, and most of all seeing Steven and Vicki longer left me quite all right with the idea of her departure. Their dynamic together was nice, but I wasn't as excited about it as I was in The Time Meddler.

Oh god, this is it—I'm done with s2! *flails* And quite sad too, because this was my last real episode with Vicki, there's just one part left in s3 now—all the rest is missing. Won't even see her departure, poor dear! Oh well, that's life—there are always the recons but I've never had the patience with those…

Watched The Crusade while I was at it, since there were only two parts available. After The Web Planet's slight disapppointment, that was thoroughly delightful—I really enjoyed every character, why can't they do aliens I can feel for like this? Aliens aren't just about the silly costumes and weird voices =P
Joanna was especially wonderful ("There's something new in you, yet something older than the sky itself"…), as well as Haroun and his young daughter. Poor Barbara seems doomed to being kidnapped and tossed around while Vicki stays all nice and safe with the Doctor—seriously, does he NEVER let her out of his sight? But I was like "awww" at the scene in which Vicki was all frightened by the idea of the Doctor leaving her behind. ALSO HE BOPPED HER NOSE AND THEY HAD A HUG. ♥
Now Ian and Barbara's last two episodes better be as good! :D

Finished watching The Web Planet, and I have to say that is the episode I liked least in s2 thus far… I think that most of it has to do with the aliens—I found them all thoroughly ridiculous, except maybe the creepy spider voice, which was… well, creepy. And the team TARDIS was all separated—Vicki and the Doctor had nice moments (because of COURSE those two were together…), but Ian + aliens and Barbara + aliens didn't really allow for lots of nice character moments, at least in my opinion. Oh well! Things I did like—the Doctor's ring coming to an use, that was interesting. The character moments at the beginning, with Ian and Barbara spontaneously being protective of Vicki. The interaction between Barbara and Vicki was quite nice, and yes a bit annoying at times because it's quite obvious that Vicki doesn't really trust Barbara as much as she trusts the Doctor, and there is no reason for that—she seems almost unpleasant sometimes, quite dismissive. I'm intrigued by the girl's backstory, and wonder whether we'll find out more about her…
Other remark—the TARDIS seriously spends SO MUCH TIME being overpowered, sent away or generally useless for a supposedly brilliant ship. Plot reasons ftw!

Lines that stuck to memory:

"I wished we’d materialised in some really luxurious place, you know. Lots of lovely things to buy and eat and wear." -Vicki being Little Miss Shallow.

IAN: I hope my pants stay up.
DOCTOR: Yes, well that’s your affair, not mine.

and also Vicki taking a liking for one of the ants once they could control it. Wtf, girl!

Finished watching Planet of Giants today and OMFG IT'S SOOOOOOOO GOOD. If s2 carries on that way, it's certainly most promising :D

1- The whole plot of the episode had me thrilled and on the edge of my seat and full of giggles. The cat! The sink! Insects! The matchbox! The phone! ♥♥♥!

2- Sick!Barbara. My poor love. *loves her* And Ian's face…

3- On the same note, Ian/Barbara always and forever. Just keep touching in all the little innocent ways, you two. I also found out there are many more episodes with them than I once thought—yay!

4- Susan being clever and making deductions at the SAME TIME at her grandfather, and standing up for herself when Ian was like "no way." Good for you, girl!

5- Those baddies. I liked those baddies. I don't know why, I just did. Baddies who weren't aliens/historical, just people who would have done about anything if it served their interest or what they believed in. Just human.

6- The Doctor apologized to Barbara for being rude, at the beginning! ♥♥♥

7- I just love the way they can split up in ANY team—Ian/Barbara and the Doctor and his granddaughter vs. Doctor + Barbara and Ian + Susan vs. the men on one side and the girls on the other—and it ALWAYS WORKS.

Watching next: Susan's last episode, Daleks again (hoping to enjoy it more than their s1 ep…) and then it'll be Vicki joining the crew! :D

Sooo. Been rewatching Rings of Akkaten and I just have to SHARE THE FEELS.

The River parallels were pretty much obvious from the first airing (see here for reference). The song is over, Merry vs. Melody (when Merry ends up not sacrificing herself, the Doctor tells her "There's always a way." ALWAYS A WAY OUUUUUT ♥ too bad there's nowhere to jump from), the power of stories and knowledge etc etc.

But KNOWING that the Doctor is always seeing River… That "The song is over" moment was all the more powerful for it. THE CHORISTER'S BRACELET IS EERILY SIMILAR TO A VORTEX MANIPULATOR, SERIOUSLY. HOW DID I EVER MISS THIS.

But mostly, mostly:

DOCTOR: You remind me of someone.
CLARA: Who?
DOCTOR: Someone who died.
CLARA: Well, whoever she was, I'm not her, okay? If you want me to travel with you, that's fine. But as me. I'm not a bargain basement stand-in for someone else. I'm not going to compete with a ghost.
DOCTOR: No.

There were snowmen!Clara and Oswin, of course, and also the whole new companion thing, the fact that the Doctor had to heal from the loss of the Ponds—but now that we know that he lost River too… could it get any clearer? Except if Clara went "oh, was that a former girlfriend?", I can't see how. And it's BRILLIANT, because Clara is Clara and River is River, and they are both huge in his life, and shippers wars suck and they're both awesome and I'm happy. And yes, I know that probably sounded rambly and a bit incoherent. That's me in enthusiasm.

That was my merry moment of the day. (…easy pun, I had to…)
